'Cartridges 4 Planet Ark' Blitzes 2013 Target
The ‘Cartridges 4 Planet Ark' program has blitzed its aim to recycle 23 million printer cartridges by March 2014, five months ahead of schedule. By the end of October last year, 23,088,812 cartridges had been collected for recycling. It seems households are dropping more cartridges off at participating retailers and businesses are recycling even more through their workplace boxes - together we're recycling more than one cartridge every ten seconds!
The environmental benefits of this success are massive, with:
- over 10,690 tonnes of cartridges diverted from landfill;
- over 109,198 tonnes of greenhouse gases prevented from being released into the atmosphere*; and
- significant water, energy and resource savings as a result of the recycled materials being used in other products.
Together with the participating manufacturers, Brother, Canon, Epson, HP, Konica Minolta and Kyocera, and our resource recovery partner, Close the Loop, this voluntary extended producer responsibility (EPR) program is one of the most successful of its kind in Australia.
