Recycling scheme for flood-damaged ink cartridges

Special sized ‘Cartridges 4 Planet Ark’ collection bags have been set-up in specific Officeworks outlets in Queensland so that businesses, in particular, can drop off flood-damaged printer cartridge supplies for recycling.
“All types and brands of printer cartridges in any condition will be accepted and there is no need to remove them from their water damaged packaging,” says Planet Ark spokesperson Brad Gray. “Even if they’re damaged, the plastics and metals used to make cartridges are able to be recovered and used again.”
Officeworks is accepting bulk cartridge deliveries until February 28. Households can continue to recycle printer cartridges throughout the year through the ‘Cartridges 4 Planet Ark’ green retail box in-store.
“After one of the worst environmental and economic disasters in our country’s history, Queenslanders are now facing one of the biggest clean-up Australia has ever seen,” says Gray. “By recycling water damaged cartridges, rather than sending them to the tip, people will be helping local recycling businesses as well as reducing the already significant environmental damage.”
Businesses are encouraged to check for recycling options with the equipment suppliers before disposing of machines.
